Loose Lips Press Warped 101- Part 2

By Ben Buchnat, Staff Writer and Director of Social Media Operations

We are now right in the midst of Warped Tour season and the timing seems appropriate to reveal my personal picks for the bands to see at this year’s festival on July 19, 2014. Keep in mind that these are my personal picks and they only reflect my musical taste, not yours. In no particular order, here is the list.

Linkin Park Headlining Warped Tour Today

While speculation has been running that a special guest will be playing Warped Tour today in Ventura, CA, we can now confirm that the surprise guest will be the rock group Linkin Park. Linkin Park recently released their album, The Hunting Party, to acclaim from old-school Linkin Park fans and critics alike.

Kevin Lyman said in a tweet earlier today that there will be “special surprises today”. There had been rumors that one of those would be Linkin Park, but those reports were not confirmed by the band. However, just a few minutes ago Mike Shinoda from the band tweeted “Ventura, CA”. The band is in Ventura and will be playing Warped Tour today! Hopefully fans in Cali will be able to catch their set!

Loose Lips Press Warped 101- Part 1

Summer is here, and you know what that means. Warped Tour is here! This is part one of a two part series about this famous tour. Today’s part will feature general tips and band selections, while Part 2 will focus on my personal lineup. With all of this knowledge, you should be able to conquer Warped this year!

Tips of the Trade

1. Hydrate!

This is by far the most important thing you need to do while at Warped Tour. If you don’t hydrate, your experience at the tour will be bad. Just bring a water bottle! Warped provides the water, you just need a bottle to hold it. Warped gets hot and you should prepared.

2. Bring Sunscreen!

Another obvious one, but just as important. Being sun-burnt hurts and is bad for your health. Also you will look like a crab and it is definitely not an attractive look.

3. Come Up With A Meeting Place

Let’s face it, someone will either loose or break their phone or have that phone run out of battery. These things happen. By having a common meeting place, you can avoid much of the confusion that comes with a technology breakdown.

4. Try One Band You Don’t Know

There are a ton of great bands playing the festival and there is no way you know them all. Give one of these unknown bands a chance during your day, you could find your new favorite act.

5. Check Out The Acoustic Basement

The Acoustic Basement has a great and interesting lineup that will please fans of multiple genres. This stage is a must-see for any fan of Warped. You may even see your favorite band perform a surprise set. Who knows? Checking this out should be high on your list.

Now for the bands that you should (hopefully) see.

For fans of Classic Pop-Punk check out:

Teenage Bottlerocket sounds like all the classic stuff you know and love. Do it, you won’t regret it.

For fans of Hardcore check out:

Beartooth’s new album is great and their style of hardcore will make anyone want to get into a pit.

For fans of Ska check out:

Less Than Jake. Duh.

For fans of Metalcore check out:

Issues is awesome and their style of melodic metalcore really strikes a chord with me.

That is all for today, check in later in the week to see Part 2!

Following Against Me’s January release entitled Transgender Dysphoria Blues, an album 33 years in the making, the band embarked on a nationwide tour for the month of May. It started off in Charlotte, North Carolina and ending in Ventura, California. The supporting acts are The Tony Molina Band and Big Eyes. This show in particular that I attended was in Webster Hall, New York City, the hub for any and all tri-state area punk shows.
