The Taste of Chicago in 2014 kicked off with a bang with a performance by AWOLNATION, one of music’s most exciting and entertaining acts.

The Taste of Chicago is a yearly festival to celebrate the best food that Chicago has to offer. Along with the delicious food and drinks, the city brings some top-notch music acts to play every year. Last year’s lineup included bands like fun. and Neon Trees and this year’s has AWOLNATION playing night one of this five day festival. The lineup included AWOLNATION and opening act Saints of Valory.

Saints of Valory was not the worst opener I have ever scene, but they certainly were not the best. They definitely had good stage presence but their songs just left me disinterested. Also they did the whole everyone plays a tom during some of the songs. This trend is getting old and this band did not interest me at all

However AWOLNATION proved that they are one of the most exciting acts in music today. By playing a mix of their hits and their fan favorites. Their stage presence was just incredible and Aaron got people moving even though the chairs and security prevented people from really being able to jump up and down. A highlight was the group’s excellent performance of Kill Your Heroes, and the encore which had the 15 minute long closer Knights of Shame. That track had a diverse feel to it, mixing multiple styles into one song. Overall it was a great show put one by Aaron and Co.
